Samuel Jambrović receives a special Honorable Mention from the CLA

September 6, 2024 by Berenice Villagómez

Congratulations to Sam Jambrović for receiving an Honorable Mention by the selection committee at the 2024 Canadian Linguistic Association’s annual conference.

Sam, who is a PhD candidate in Hispanic Linguistics in our department, presented a paper titled "Defending Predicativism: Lessons from Barbie". During his presentation in Ottawa a few weeks ago, he compared two proposals on the semantics of proper names.

We want to note that this distinction is not automatically given every year, which makes it even more special. As part of their comments for the citation, the selection committee said:

"Attendees were impressed by the way in which Samuel situated this topic within the background of linguistic and philosophical thought. He showed great skill in being able to distill complex philosophical material and did so in a way that was highly engaging."

Join us for a big round of applause to celebrate this achievement with Sam!
