Professor Emeritus Keith Ellis, who has produced ten books since his retirement in 2000, was awarded both the Andrés Bello Medal by the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and Cuba’s Dulce María Loynaz International Prize in 2010. In 2013 he was named an Alumni of Influence of University College and was one of three international scholars to be given a homage at the International Congress for Cultural, Interdisciplinary and Transatlantic Studies, "Cuba Traslántica," organized by Brown University and the University of Havana, for his "contribuciones al conocimiento y valoración de la literatura cubana." In 2014 he was invited to give the inaugural address for the Panamanian National Book Fair, and in the same year he was given the Friendship Medal by the Council of State and Ministers of the Republic of Cuba. He was named to the Order of Distinction in the rank of Commander by the government of Jamaica.
